Ever since driving past Mont Blanc on tour with my old band many years ago, I’ve wanted to head back to that part of the world. Our friends Bex and Si go quite often and after seeing their photos, the jealousy got too much to handle!

So, with the help of cheap flights to Geneva and a bargain Airbnb cabin find in Chamonix, it finally happened…

Although Chamonix is probably best known as a ski resort, I’d definitely recommend it for a short summer break. We spent our days walking and taking in the breathtaking scenery, and our evenings enjoying the fantastic food and drink that the town has to offer.

As you can see, I’m not particularly fond of cable cars – but I would reluctantly accept that it was worth it for the views! We went up as part of the Aiguille Du Midi to Montenvers walk, which was absolutely brilliant and highly recommended – just make sure you don’t go the wrong way and find yourself on a very narrow path with a sheer drop and chains to hang on to…

If you do visit Chamonix (you really should), make sure you head to Moody Coffee Roasters for one of the best coffees you’ll ever taste:

We also really enjoyed the Bighorn Bistro for food and drink: – the mac & cheese was phenomenal and they had some great beers on tap.

Speaking of beers, it probably won’t surprise you to know that we also enjoyed the Micro Brasserie de Chamonix: They have an in-house brewery and their Granite Pale Ale was just the ticket after an alpine trek, particularly following the aforementioned chain section!

Chamonix, we’ll see you again soon.
