Although the title of this post is ‘Paris’, it would arguably be better named ‘The Proposal’.
Back in November 2013, my partner Rachel and I headed to the French capital to celebrate us both becoming one year older.
One of the perks of there only being four days between our birthdays is that it provides us with an annual excuse for a late November/early December travel treat… not that we need any excuses.
We had an amazing weekend being absolute tourists. We visited: The Eiffel Tower (if the queues for the lifts are long and you think it’s a good idea to walk up – think again!); The Louvre (not quite sure why so many people want to take photos of the Mona Lisa – it’s actually better to look at with your eyes than through a camera lens!); Sacre Coeur & Montmartre (retracing Amelie’s footsteps…); Notre Dame and well, you get the idea!
We also bought absolutely loads of macarons from Pierre Herme:
When we were meandering back to our hotel, the beautiful La Maison Favart, Rachel was joking that somebody might try and mug her for her macarons! Little did she know, I’d been walking around with something far more muggable in my pocket for the previous three days:
In a quiet (aka empty), beautiful square right outside our hotel and the Opéra Comique, I got down on one knee and said: “Ere Rachel, can I ask you a question?” Thankfully she answered with a resounding yes.
If you’re heading to Paris (whether it’s to propose or just see the sights!), I’d definitely recommend staying at La Maison Favart. It’s perfectly placed for exploring the city and is also a delightful little hotel with bags of personality, character and Parisian charm.
